Laughing At Your Messes

I love the bright side of life. I look for the bright side of life.

I. Love. Laughing.

It works my abs. I mean… Laughing > Sit-ups.

Tho I’ll be honest here, there’s nothing more irritating than being in the midst of an extremely rough patch of life and having someone tell you to look on the bright side. You’re like…Dude, some happy thief came and snatched up my bright side and left this hot mess, thank-you-very-much.

And then I think, but what if somewhere in our hot messes lie some glimmer of bright? Just, what if. Could it be possible? Could it be we often times get so caught up in the mess that we let the best slip right by us?

The best, you ask? Yes. There is good to be found in hardship. It’s in there. It’s hiding in the “how bad do you want to see me” corner.

Y’all, life is hard. Some of the most spirit-filled joyous people I know are ones in the middle of scary, questionable journeys. And they’re the most positive people in my life. In fact, they make me laugh. They laugh in the face of fear. They stand up to their 20-foot brick walls of “you can’t pass this” and they pass it anyway.

Are you thinking of Job yet?

“Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” Job 2:10

It is so easy to think that God doesn’t love us, doesn’t care or, doesn’t even exist, when we are facing trials. Doubt creeps in before we even know it and suddenly we find ourselves sitting in a dark lonely pit basking in our sorrows.

Is the God that we so easily shower thanks upon in times of highs and rewards also not the same God who carries us through our lows and our struggles? Can He not be both? Can we let Him be the God of everything in our lives? The good and the not so good? Is it possible for us to choose to laugh in the midst of hardship because we know we stand with God on His Holy ground of protection and provision?

“When I smiled at them they could hardly believe it; their faces lit up, their troubles took wing.” Job 29:24

What do you believe about God today?
