Have you ever felt afraid to share your views or opinions on a subject? I’m talking any subject. Football, Politics, Economy, Religion, Coke vs Pepsi?
Y’all know I stand firmly for life. And I have been kicked down too many times because my backbone had no confidence.
Here are a 6 things I’ve learned the hard way to help you stand your ground in a very opinionated world.
1- KNOW WHY YOU STAND FOR WHAT YOU STAND FOR
Why does your heart connect with it? What draws you to be a voice for it? Is it truly your passion or is it a jump-on-the-bandwagon-hot-topic passion? An authentic zeal, voice, and approach will serve as your sturdy platform to stand on while you’re sharing what you’re standing for.
2- MAKE NO APOLOGIES
You don’t owe anyone an apology for what you believe in. Remain firm in your belief and commitment, otherwise you might find yourself standing on shaky legs. This is why number 1 above is so important.
3- BE WILLING TO RESPECTFULLY ENGAGE WITH RESISTANCE
Even if your opposers are not being respectful, keep an open mind.
You can respect the opposition and still disagree. However, you do not need to accept harsh words or a bully’s belittling. Know when to walk away.
4- DON’T SHRINK BACK
Not everyone thinks like you think. Not everyone will support you. That does not mean you give up. If this is what you believe in and feel your purpose on this earth is for, then you stay the course.
5- STAY EDUCATED AND INFORMED… so that you are always ready to give an answer.
You might find this hard to believe, but some opposers live, and love, to throw hurdles in your path to trip you up. Sad, but true. Be prepared to clear those hurdles with data, truth, and conviction.
6- ABOVE ALL… LOVE
Just love on people. Be kind, not a push-over, but work to stay above reproach. People may not agree with you, but your character should be one that even your biggest critics can’t even bash.
